    Established in1792 as a two grade (gold and silver) medal by king Stanislas Augustus. Restored in 1969 as the top honor of the organization, awarded exclusively to the most eminent Polish citizens, dead or living, who distinguished themselves by their life and work for Poland and the Polish Nation. Conferred in two classes.
