    Description

JUDAICA – Falenica German WWII Occupation Poland – Check Book
JUDAICA – Falenica, a Jewish Town in Poland, near Warsaw. A check book with two blank checks, stamped “Judenrat der Gemeinde Falenica” (Jewish Council of Falenica), ca. 1939- 41. A rare piece of Jewish history in Poland.
Before World War II, Falenica was a thriving small town near Warsaw, where Jews comprised two-thirds of its population. In late 1939
    the Jewish Council (
    Judenrat
    ) was established
in Falenica, and in November 1940 the Germans opened a Jewish Ghetto here, called Falenica-Miedzeszyn Ghetto, which existed until August 1942 when all its inhabitants were transported to the Treblinka
    death camp.
